Collaboration Over Competition: Why Community Means Everything to Anastasia's Bedroom

When I started Anastasia's Bedroom, I knew one thing for certain—I wasn't going to outspend the big retailers.

I didn't have a huge marketing budget, thousands of products, or next-day shipping. But I did have something just as valuable: a passion for building a community where women could feel confident, supported, and empowered.

Instead of asking myself, "How do I compete?" I started asking, "Who can I grow with?"

That simple shift changed everything.

Community Over Competition

One of the best parts of owning Anastasia's Bedroom has been meeting so many incredible local businesses and entrepreneurs. While some people see other businesses as competition, I've always believed there's enough room for all of us to succeed.

Some of my favourite collaborations have been with photographers who celebrate body confidence, educators who help normalize conversations around intimacy and consent, talented local makers creating beautiful self-care products, and fellow women-owned businesses that share the same mission of helping people feel confident.

We may sell different things, but we're all working toward the same goal: helping people feel good about themselves.

Collaboration Builds Trust

Shopping for lingerie or intimacy products can feel personal, and sometimes even a little intimidating.

That's why trust matters so much.

When another local business recommends Anastasia's Bedroom, it means the world to me because it tells customers they're entering a space where they'll be welcomed without judgment.

Those relationships can't be bought with advertising—they're built through genuine connection, shared values, and supporting one another.

Creating Something Together

Collaboration is about so much more than sharing each other's Instagram posts.

Some of my favourite projects have involved creating something entirely new together.

One collaboration I'm especially excited about is with Sewn, a Calgary-based lingerie company. Together, we're launching a vintage-inspired panty set that combines Sewn's beautiful craftsmanship with the playful, confidence-first style of Anastasia's Bedroom.

It's a reminder that sometimes the best ideas happen when creative people come together.
